I. Announcements

- Curt Dwyer of Plate Restaurant is the new Board Treasurer
- Stacey Fuessinger of Just Bead It is the Vice President of Internet Communications

Island News by Town:

- Beach Haven-Steve Steiner of Surflight Theatre discussed the new form of government in Beach Haven that will be voted on this November. The current government is 3 commissioners, and currently there is no communication between the 3 departments. Per Steve, things get done quickly, but the lack of communication means that decisions are often hasty. The proposal of the ballot is that there would be 5 Counselors and a Town Manager. The Counselors would be voted on, while the Manager would be, in effect, the CEO of the town- in charge of the day to day issues (i.e.: hiring, firing) with input from the Counselors. The Mayor would be one of the counselors and be a “Weak Mayor”.

-Theft Issues from the summer season

Island Sun was burglarized. Someone cut a hole through the floor. The alarm went off, and the Police arrived. They checked the doors were locked. They did not call the owners. $20,000-$25,000 worth of merchandise was stolen.
Surf Shack was broken in to.
Per Cheryl- A 4’ Clam was stolen
Stacey had her wagon stolen off of the beach
Island Surf & Sail had items stolen that were recovered from Craig’s List.
-The Shack Renovations
-Discussion of creating a Newsletter or Blog so that people can find out what’s going on in the off season. Or, creation of a discount card to entice people to the island.
-Possible liaison with the Chamber for Events.

Downtown Beach Haven Terrace Revitalization
    -Dick Jeffries talked about having neighboring businesses join together to make the town more attractive and pedestrian friendly.

Triathlon/ Chowderfest Buses

   -Triathlon- 300 entrants, lots of publicity. Event P&L $1,000
   -Chowderfest Buses were a success. Would like to suggest expand the distance that the buses travel for next year. Also, suggest that the buses run on Saturday as well to help the Merchants.

Location of the Meeting

-There is a possibility that the Township may charge to use their space. Options were discussed. We will discuss this again next month. The current options are- Paying the fee and having the meetings as they have been, changing the night to Wednesday and coinciding with the planning board meeting, or moving the Location to Nardi’s as they offered their space. We are looking to make sure that the meetings can be on a consistent day and time to avoid confusion.
